Vets Captain's Weekly Update

7th September 2022

Fellow Vets

There was no scheduled competition on Tuesday, however we did play West Malling Seniors in a friendly at Cherry Lodge that day and managed a convincing 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 win. Highlights were that we played in warm dry weather as the forecast rain and thunder never materialised at all. Also Dennis Shipp managed to shoot a gross 76 off his 12 handicap (including 6 birdies) which contributed to his and Geoff Coad's 5 & 4 win over their opponents. Dennis also gave 16 shots away to one of their team so very well played Dennis! Only one loss overall as myself and Mike Hanley having gained a 2 hole lead after 5 holes, subsequently lost 6 of the next 10, shaking hands on the 15th after going down 4 & 3. Their immediate past captain made the most of his extra shots and hit a purple patch mid round! A birdie on the 18th (my second in consecutive rounds) was a small personal consolation but "too little, too late"! Very well played to the rest of the team though!

Our overall friendlies tally to date after 13 matches is now Won 5, Halved 2 & Lost 7. Updated match results and stats will be available on the website shortly.

We have a strong pairing of Dave Morgan and Micky Smith competing in the Kent Golf Vets League Pairs championship at West Kent this Friday so good luck to them both.

Next week see the Vets Team Open on Monday (all host spots now filled thanks), once again no competition next Tuesday (the 13th). Roll up if you fancy a casual round but be off early please as we have a Vets home friendly against Shirley Park which will tee off from the 1st and 9th from c. 08.30h.

The following week on Monday 19th September the Kent Vets Golf League singles championship is being held at Cherry Lodge. Good luck to Alan Jerome and Peter White who are both competing.

The inaugural Vets Masters is on Tuesday 20th (only 2021 Vets competition and medal winners eligible), booking closes for the draw on Saturday 17th.

On Friday 23rd September we have our penultimate away friendly at Mid Kent with plenty of you already listed as available on the website!

Although historically that has been our last Vets inter-club match, we still have our postponed away friendly against West Malling to play and this has now been confirmed to be held there on Monday 10th October. Please add your name on the website to this newly added fixture if you wish to be considered.

See you soon at the club!

Kind Regards

Keith
