Vets Captain's Weekly Report

Sep 13, 2022
2 min read

13th September 2022.

Fellow Vets

Yesterday saw the Vets Team Open Invitation Day with 12 teams competing for the trophy. A team from The Darenth were the victors this year with an excellent 122 points (best 3 from 4 stableford scores per hole counting) with Bernie Deacon hosting that team. Paul Braithwaite won the best host's score with an excellent 41 points on a testing course and also hosted the runners up team (another from The Darenth). Excellent weather, food, company and £400 raised from the raffle for my charity made a great day for us all. Many thanks to all the team hosts for making it such a success.

Again, there was no scheduled competition today (Tuesday), but we played our last home friendly against Shirley Park Seniors and our Vets team managed a convincing 5 to 1 win. We had several 5 or 6 hole win margins as our visitors found the pace and pin placements challenging following our Club Championship weekend! The forecast light rain did materialise and the greens were clearly slower but not too much to trouble your team! Rumour has it Bernie Deacon shot the equivalent of 40 points - well done indeed! You'll also be glad to hear your Captain finally won a match (his first victory this year). I sincerely hope Neil Hollins' shoulders aren't aching too much!! So having halved the away fixture earlier in June, we've done well against them this year.

Our overall friendlies tally to date after 14 matches is now Won 6, Halved 2 & Lost 6. Updated match results and stats will be available on the website shortly.

Next Monday 19th September the club and course is closed so the Kent Vets Golf League singles championship has had to be rearranged a.s.a.p. for Tuesday 4th October. This has meant postponing the Meehan Rose Bowl competition to later in the month to Tuesday 25th October. Our Competition Secretary will be in touch shortly on his return from holiday with the re-booking arrangements for this pairs competition.

The inaugural Vets Masters is next Tuesday 20th (only 2021 Vets competition and medal winners eligible), booking closes for the draw on Saturday 17th.

On Friday 23rd September we have our penultimate away friendly at Mid Kent with plenty of you still listed as available on the website - I'll let you know my team selection shortly! Although historically that has been our last Vets inter-club match, we still have our postponed away friendly against West Malling to play and this has now been confirmed to be held there on Monday 10th October. Please add your name on the website to this newly added fixture if you wish to be considered.

See you soon at the club.

Kind Regards

Keith
