Vets Captain's Weekly Post 26/08/2022
From our Vets Captain Keith:
Fellow Vets
Last Thursday, Malcolm led a strong team to The Darenth for our away friendly. Unfortunately the combination of a low slope index there and plenty of shots given away saw us go down 5 - 1.
This Tuesday's Vets Pairs Scramble was a success with the joint highest competition turnout of the year and some good scores returned too! My match report will be available here very shortly -> https://martynheath.wixsite.com/vets/2022-competitions
On Thursday afternoon, myself and several others played in the Vets Past Captains Trophy competition which was won by Dennis Shipp, who successfully defended his title from last year. We also enjoyed a dinner with our partners that evening with other past Vets captains where Dennis was also presented with the trophy. He qualifies for a place in next years Vets Masters too. Martyn Heath was also a surprised recipient of a cake to celebrate his birthday!
Unfortunately due to the heavy thunderstorm on Wednesday night, the Super Seniors fixture at West Kent GC also scheduled for Thursday was postponed as the course was closed. They will have to wait even longer now to play in what could be a crucial match to determine if they have won the league!
The Vets League team played at Chislehurst GC this afternoon but lost 5 -1. I'm sure League Captain Dennis will post his report up on the website in due course.
Next week on Tuesday 30th we have our last "drawn" stroke play medal of the season. There are 70 entries already so still room for more! Please note that booking will close on Saturday night to enable the draw to be finalised in good time.
The following Tuesday 6th September there is no competition scheduled but we have our home friendly against West Malling. This is our first match against them this year as our away fixture was postponed due to the extreme temperatures last month. We have rescheduled this away match for Monday 10th October which Martyn will add to the website calendar and player availability tools shortly.
Finally, the Vets Team Open is slated for Monday 12th September and I'm now looking for volunteers to host a team of 3 players from other clubs in our annual open event. Please email me directly if you would like to play, there will be a fee for the two course lunch that follows.
See you soon at the club.
Kind Regards
Keith
