Captain's Weekly Update

22nd November 2022

Fellow Vets

I've nothing to report competition wise as the weather has truly been against us for the last three weeks. My "3 in 1" Captain's Choice idea has been scuppered for the season as a consequence I'm afraid. A shame, as Alan Jerome had, once again, done a lot of work on both the administration and handicapping for which I thank him . . . again!

Since the November Stableford Medal was played on the first of the month, I've received numerous representations regarding the question of sanctions against those failing to complete/start their rounds. In the light of those and following discussion at a Vets Committee meeting last week, the imposition of penalties would be inappropriate given the extraordinary (and some would say biblical) conditions that were encountered that day during the course of that competition.

The wording of the Club rules around competitions coupled with the difficulty in on-course competition management in such circumstances were also discussed at length and the Vets Committee will be making some suggestions to the Club's Playing Committee regarding the wording of these rules in due course. The minutes of our Vets Committee Meeting last Tuesday will also be made available on the website once approved.

The December Stableford Medal, the last of the year is scheduled for next week on Tuesday 29th November (weather permitting!) and a last chance for some to try and clinch the Consistency League Trophy. 87 booked with only 5 places left though as I write!

Our traditional Vets Christmas 12 Hole Stableford & Lunch will be held on Tuesday 6th December. This will be played off the red tees with a two course Christmas lunch to follow. Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding and mince pies with your coffee. There'll also be a small raffle too, giving me one last chance to raise some money for Prostate Cancer UK. Your match and lunch fee (£27) will be taken together when booking. Christmas outfits optional, on the course and at lunch! Partners and guests are welcome as well! Disappointingly, only 21 booked in so far though (with 5 additional guests for lunch). Booking will close on the Thursday 1st December so please don't delay!

Finally, the postponed Vets v Ladies Trophy match is to be held on Tuesday 13th December. No lunch included but losers buy the drinks! They’ll be some prizes too! Booking is open with a £2 match fee and played as 4BBB drawn pairs stableford matchplay over 12 holes. We have 27 Vets entries although the Ladies are struggling to match our number by a long way! Please badger your wives/partners if they're lady members and not already entered as I don't want to disappoint anyone wishing to play as I'll have to pick our team on a "first booked in first served basis.

See you in the club house soon.

Kind Regards

Keith
