Captain's Weekly Report

Dec 2, 2022
2 min read

30th November 2022

Fellow Vets

At last the rain abated enabling us to play the last Vets qualifying competition of the year yesterday - our December Stableford Medal. The lingering fog and wet, cold conditions made for a tough round with no one able to play to their handicap! Well done though to the medal winners: Richard Jewitt, Phil Malkin and David Burchett. My full match report will be uploaded to the website shortly here:-

In case any of you were unaware, two Vets have passed away in the last week; Dave Morgan & Malcolm Grover. We held a minutes silence in the club house as a mark of respect for them both and for Peter Hatton too (who also passed recently), prior to yesterday's competition results being announced.

Once again, I need to remind you all of the need to properly complete your scorecards please for stableford competitions with the points count for each hole, front and back nines, plus the overall total in the grey box at the foot of the card. Failure to do this makes card checking even more of an onerous task for our Competition Secretary and Captain who both want the competition result finalised a.s.a.p - as I'm sure you all do. Thanks in advance for your co-operation - please!

Our traditional Vets Christmas 12 Hole Stableford & Lunch will be held next Tuesday 6th December. This will be played off the red tees with a two course Christmas lunch to follow. Roast Turkey with all the trimmings, followed by Christmas pudding and mince pies with your coffee. There'll also be a small raffle too, giving me one last chance to raise some money for Prostate Cancer UK. Your match and lunch fee (£27) will be taken together when booking. Christmas outfits optional, on the course and at lunch! Partners and guests are welcome as well! We have 29 booked in so far (with 5 additional guests for lunch). Booking must close on Thursday 1st December so please don't delay! N.B. You're welcome to join us for lunch only if you wish - please let me know by tomorrow latest and pay £24 per person direct to the Vets bank account.

Our final competition for the year - the postponed Vets v Ladies Trophy match is to be held on Tuesday 13th December. No lunch included but losers buy the drinks! They’ll be some prizes too for the highest scoring pairs. Booking is open with only a £2 match fee and played as 4BBB drawn pairs stableford matchplay over 12 holes. We have 28 Vets entries although the Ladies are struggling to match our number by a long way - only 18 registered at the last count yesterday! Please badger your wives/partners if they're lady members and not already entered as I don't want to disappoint anyone wishing to play as I'll have to pick our team on a "first booked in first served basis".

Finally, please also make sure you have the Vets Annual General Meeting in your diary for next year on Tuesday 3rd January which will be preceded by our traditional AGM 12 hole Stableford competition. I'll circulate an Agenda for our AGM f.y.i. in advance.

See you in the club house soon.

Kind Regards

Keith
