Captain's Weekly Post
Thursday 29th September 2022
On behalf of the Vets Captain Keith Vaughan Williams
Fellow Vets
The news from the last week and going forward:-
Last Friday we unfortunately went down 3.5 - 2.5 in our friendly match against the Mid Kent GC Shrimpers. A close run thing on a course that was in good condition but their home advantage just sealed it. We now stand as Won 6, Halved 2 and lost 7 with one match still to play (which I'll detail later in this email).
On Monday, our Super Seniors team won their last match at West Kent 3 -2 (having already secured the title) but extended their winning margin to 4 points. Well done to all involved! I know Captain Bernie is seeking support and/or caddies for the Kent Championship Final at Faversham GC on Friday 14th October. Please get in touch with him direct if you're interested.
On Tuesday we contested the first of the winter season Stableford Medals. Congratulations to winners; Jeff Wybourn, John Carey & David Burchett - my report will be uploaded onto the website shortly.
Unfortunately we had to postpone today's annual Ladies v Vets Stableford Matchplay competition as the Ladies were unable to field sufficient numbers for a decent game. I've already agreed with Suzanne (the Ladies Captain) to reschedule it for either later next month or early November. Please look out for the posters as we have the trophy to defend and although its a team matchplay event there'll be some individual prizes as well!
Next Tuesday 4th October the course is closed until 13.00h as the club is hosting the Kent Golf Veterans League Singles Championship. Our very own Alan Jerome and Richard Jewitt are competing with an obvious home advantage. Please feel free to come along and support them or assist with the day, details were circulated yesterday.
We have our final (postponed) friendly away at West Malling to play on Monday 10th October. I will be confirming availability over the next few days and selecting what I hope to be a winning team to even out our overall friendlies results this season!
On Tuesday 11th October 2022 there is no competition as its maintenance week. If you wish to play any time that week please do ensure you give green staff priority on the course so they can work on ensuring its in as good condition as is possible for the coming winter months!
On Tuesday 18th October is the Vets Captain/Pro Challenge Trophy competition. I'm away overseas (yes again!) so will unfortunately be unable to participate myself. It'll be a 4BBB matchplay format although there'll be some on course prizes on offer (nearest the pin on all Par 3s, Longest Fairway Drive on the 4th and Nearest the Pin in 2 on the 18th). Alan Jerome will be opening booking shortly for entries. Teams and pairs will be drawn nearer the time. I know Steve (our pro) is hoping to be well enough to play himself and he has a very able assistant pro in Bobby who's apparently off a +3 handicap!
The rescheduled Meehan Rose Bowl pairs stableford better ball competition on Tuesday 24th October already has 73 entries as I write, The November Stableford Medal on Tuesday 4th November is also filling up nicely over a month in advance!
See you in the club house soon.
Kind Regards
Keith
