Captain & Pro Team Challenge Report 18th October 2022

On behalf of the Vets Vice-Captain Malcolm Hurst.

Apologies from Captain Keith who was unable to be here today due to enjoying some sunshine in Crete. The weather was gorgeous for mid October with plenty of sunshine and warm conditions. The course was in good condition and the greens were very good for the time of year and only one week after maintenance week. Thank you to the green staff for their continued hard work.

As you know today was a match with teams led by the Vets Captain playing with Steve the Pro and the Vets Vice Captain playing with George the Asst Pro. In Keith’s absence I stepped up as Captain and our Immediate Past Captain Martyn Heath stepped up as the Vice Captain. Many thanks to Steve and George for giving up their time to compete and it was a pleasure to play with them and watch how it should be done. We had a very competitive match but myself and Steve lost on the 18th. Many of the other matches were very close too.

Many congratulations to Martyn and team who received the Phil Underwood Trophy (see photo) which was presented to the winner by Steve. Commiserations to my team but a big thank you to everyone for taking part.

Captain & Pro Team Challenge 2022- Full Results

We had various prizes for nearest the pin and the winners were:-

6th Hole Dennis Shipp

8th Hole Paul Musselwhite

12th Hole Brian Avery

16th Hole Martin Evans

18th Hole in 2 shots Martin Evans

Longest Drive on 17th Martin Evans

Well done to all the winners particularly Martin Evans who seemed to be on a mission to complete a clean sweep.

The ball drawer winners were Alan Jerome/Malcolm Lee/ Tim Wilcox and Roger Farrington

I think everyone enjoyed the day but I must mention the pace of play where most groups were 5 Hours to complete their round. This is totally unacceptable and I would ask that you remember that if you lose ground on the group in front you should call the group behind through if they are constantly waiting to play. I am aware that this didn’t happen yesterday. I am not going to name and shame but would ask everyone to be aware in future.

See you soon at the club!

Regards

Malcolm
